Vilingili boy, whose hospital transfer got delayed, dies

A young schoolboy from GA. Vilingili died at the Indhira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) on Saturday, less than two days after his family raised concern over the delay in his transfer from Vilingili to Male’.

The main government hospital said that the 13-year-old boy died at 11:10 am on Saturday.

The hospital declined to specify the cause of death.

He was transferred from the Vilingili Hospital to Male’ on Thursday, after an angry crowd gathered outside the hospital over the delay in his transfer.

According to the family, his transfer was delayed for hours, during which time his condition continued to deteriorate.

The frustrated demonstrators taped a paper with the words ‘GA. Vilingili Health Post’ on top of the hospital’s nameplate.

The Health Ministry was not immediately available for comment regarding the situation.
