Yoosuf dismissed as state minister at Home Ministry

Yoosuf Abdul Ghafoor.

Yoosuf Abdul Ghafoor has been dismissed from his position as a state minister at the Ministry of Homeland Security and Technology.

Yoosuf was reportedly dismissed on Thursday. However, the reason for the decision is unclear.

Heena Waleed, the chief spokesperson at the President’s Office, told Sun on Sunday morning that the decision was made “with the powers vested in the president under Article 115 of the Constitution.”

Article 115 (f) of the Constitution empowers the president with appointing and dismissing members of his cabinet and political appointees.

According to the information on the Homeland Security Ministry’s website, the ministry has five other state ministers.

While the exact reason for Yoosuf’s dismissal is unclear, it comes after President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu promised to reduce the number of political appointees as part of austerity measures announced to cut down the government’s expenses.

The government has declined to disclose the exact number of political appointees it has hired, but said it is upwards of 700. The opposition alleges the number of political appointees exceeds 2,000.
