Vehicles in viral video listed to be destroyed as per law: Police

The vehicles thrown from a flatbed trailer by officers of Maldives Police Service, are all listed for destruction in accordance with relevant laws, confirms police.

A video has gone viral across local social media communities that shows motorbikes thrown out from a flatbed trailer by police officers inside the authority’s vehicle tow yard in front of Marrybrown, Male’ City.

Local netizens have raised concerns questioning if police were destroying invaluable private property for minor offenses, but the authority has since clarified these vehicles have been listed for destruction in accordance with the laws.

“These vehicles were brought from Hulhumale’ for destruction,” said police, and added that the now viral video is in fact its efforts on Friday. Police confirmed the vehicles set out for destruction under law included;

  • Two-wheeled vehicles/motorbikes: 247
  • Four-wheeled vehicles: 29
  • Bicycles: 223
  • Ambulance: 01

The same has been confirmed by the Minister of Homeland Security and Technology Ali Ihusan.
