Hussain Salahuddin receives posthumous honor for service to nationalism

President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has conferred the Late Hussain Salahuddin with the Highest Honor for Service to Maldivian Nationalism.
Salahuddin received the posthumous award during the official function held on Wednesday morning to celebrate Maldives’ National Day.
Salahuddin was awarded in recognition of his service to the development of religion, Dhivehi language, heritage and culture, and his effort to spread knowledge.
Born in 1881, Hussain Salahuddin is recognized for his contributions to Maldivian literature, including the translation of various books written in Arabic, Urdu and Persian into Dhivehi.
He also served in various key positions in the Maldivian government, including the Attorney General of the Maldives and Chief Justice of the Maldives – a position he retained for a long time.
He was also a founder and principal of Majeediyya School in Male’ City, the first institution of formal education in the Maldives.
Books that he wrote include: The Story of Dhon Beefaan; The Story of Thakurufaan the Great; Sheikh Zubair, an interpretation of the works of two great Maldivian poets; Nu'umaan and Mariyam; two anthologies of poetry titled Morning Star I and II; and his most famous work, The Biography of Prophet Muhammad, in which he translated and combined various Arabic books about the Prophet into Dhivehi.
He died at the age of 67 in 1948.
During Wednesday’s function, President Muizzu also conferred the National Award of Honor to seven individuals.
This includes the Late Mohamed Thaufeeq of Haajaraage, who received a posthumous National Award for a sustainable special service, for his narration of Prophet Mohamed’s life story, and for his efforts to promote interest in it.

Dr Abdul Azeez Yoosuf: for his excellent contribution to the health sector
Mohamed Majid: for his excellent contribution to developing small to medium enterprises sector
Moosa Latheef: for his excellent contribution to media and news sector
Mohamed Nasir: for his excellent contribution to the sporting sector
Ahmed Mohamed: for his excellent contribution to the sporting sector
Hassan Manik: for his excellent contribution the performing arts sector
Another 11 individuals received the National Award of Recognition. They are:

From the field of Islamic studies, Sheikh Ahmed Maumoon; for his remarkable efforts to educate public on Islam, Islamic values and religion
From the education field, Ismail Sajid; for his remarkable efforts to train and develop technical individuals
From the fisheries filed, Ibrahim Thahkhaan; for his remarkable efforts to preserve and enhance pole and line fishing
From the field of trade and economy, Riyan Pvt Ltd; for their remarkable efforts to develop business sector
From the field of trade and economy, Amir Mansoor; for his remarkable efforts to introduce revolutionary services and products to the market
From the boat building sector, Abdul Rahman Yoosuf; for his remarkable efforts to preserve and enhance boat and yatch building sectors
From the culinary arts sector, Fathimath Umar; for her remarkable efforts to train and develop technical individuals
From the youth sector, Hussain Ali; for his remarkable efforts to promote enhance volunteer work in the community.
