Maldives Immigration reports deporting a total of 3,322 migrants for various offenses since the current administration took charge on November 17 last year until this Sunday.

The authority has raided 257 different venues as part of the ongoing crackdown against illegal immigrants and expatriates running businesses illegally, the latter of which is a major priority for Immigration, and has been taking stringent action against offenders.

The Ministry of Homeland Security and Technology earlier launched ‘Operation Kurangi’, a nationwide effort of collecting data of immigrants to identify undocumented migrant workers and provide them the change to become documented.

Besides this, several expatriates producing food in unhygienic conditions were apprehended, with one migrant arrested for suspected killing, consumption, and sale of processed cat meat.
