Fire breaks out at Thilafushi workshop; one injured

A fire broke out at a workshop in K. Thilafushi on Thursday morning, leaving one person injured.

The fire broke out at the Marinedo Marineworks workshop in Thilafushi – an industrial island off the capital, Male’ City.

A spokesperson from the Maldives National Defense Force (MNDF) said that firefighters from the Thilafushi Fire Station were responding to the fire.

According to the MNDF, one person – identified as a Maldivian national – was taken to the hospital for smoke inhalation and minor burns.

Photos and videos shared on social media show thick plumes of smoke as the warehouse is engulfed in flames.

A social media user who livestreamed the incident on Facebook reported hearing sounds of explosions coming from the warehouse, and said the fire had also spread to adjacent buildings.
