Maldives Immigration has issued a ‘Notice to Appear’ for a foreigner who is suspected of producing and selling food containing cat meat.

They identified the foreigner as a 32-year-old Bangladeshi national, Arafat Hossain.

He has been instructed to appear at Maldives immigration within five days.

Anyone with information regarding Arafat’s whereabouts has been asked to contact Maldives Immigration via phone at 9199017 or via email at [email protected].

Feline Welfare Organization, via a post on X, said Arafat illegally works at Valhoamas Market. They said he is suspected of butchering, cooking, eating and selling cat meat.

Notable, Maldives Immigration is conducting a crackdown on illegal migration in the Maldives. As per a post earlier today, Immigration searched M. Reethi Orchid in Male’ City as part of a raid during which they detained two illegal migrants.

The migrants were producing areca nuts for sale at the location, which does not meet the hygiene standards of food preparation.

Maldives Food and Drug Authority has previously warned of action in such cases once the Food Safety Act comes into force.
