Yellow alert in north, central Maldives extended as strong winds, rough seas prevail

Maldives Metrological Service (Met Office) has extended the yellow alert issued for northern and central Maldives as strong winds and rough seas prevail.

The yellow alert issued from Haa Alifu Atoll to Thaa Atoll until 14:00pm this afternoon was extended until 20:00pm tonight.

Met Office has forecasted strong winds of 25 miles to 30 miles per house with gusts of 50 miles per hour and rough seas for these regions during this period.

The weather agency has warned of possible swell waves during windy hours and high tides.

Henceforth, they have advised the public to stay vigilant and take precautionary measures to safeguard property and belongings.

Met Office states widespread rain with thunderstorms is expected to prevail over the country for the remainder of this week. They have forecasted weather improvements for southern atolls starting from Sunday and for northern and central atolls starting from Monday.
