Maldives Meteorological Service (Met Office) states air pollution and weather across all Maldivian regions will improve for the new year.

Met Office provided details of the weather forecast for the upcoming seven days to Sun on Monday. According to the weather forecasting body, central atolls will experience scattered rain on Tuesday and Wednesday, with the weather set to improve starting from Thursday.

Meanwhile, southern atolls will see rain on Tuesday and Wednesday, and scattered rain on Thursday and Friday. Met Office states weather in southern atolls will improve starting Saturday.

Seas are expected to be mild.

However, Met Office noted that air pollution persists in northern and central atolls, however, better than before.

“Air pollution is expected to improve starting 1st [January], a bit better than at present,” the official said.

Notably, air quality across the Maldives deteriorated to unhealthy levels early December, posing a risk to sensitive groups, owing to a haze.

Unlike mist or fog, haze is caused by fine particles in the air, which pollute the air and reduce visibility.

The Maldives usually faces haze during December and January, reducing visibility and deteriorating air quality.
