The Criminal Court has cancelled its hearings scheduled for Wednesday after the court’s premises got flooded during Tuesday’s heavy rainfall.
The court said on X that all of its hearings scheduled for Wednesday has been cancelled owing to the court’s premises flooding as well as due to President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu declaring Wednesday a government holiday. to severe weather conditions.
The court, however, added that all matters related to remand hearing and issuance of court orders will not be interrupted.
A media official of the Criminal Court spoke to ‘Sun’ Online and confirmed that the building experienced flooding previously as well. The official also said that water entered into areas where electronic devices have been kept and said that water leaked in both the court’s premises in Male’ and Hulhumale’.
The official further added that some of the chambers used by judges have experienced water leaks and said the court’s employees were assessing structural damages on Tuesday evening.
A month ago, the court experienced similar flooding due to heavy rain and had rescheduled all of its hearings the following day. Several hearings at the court had been rescheduled due to damages to the building while several parts of the structure have been weakened due to cracks.
