The Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) has cautioned travelers of flight delays and rescheduling owing to heavy rain and bad weather conditions.
The Maldives Meteorological Center (MET Office) has issued a yellow alert for a major portion of the country amidst the ongoing heavy rainfall and weather conditions.
MACL, in a post on X, said that “with heavy rain forecasted for the week, delays are expected due to the weather” and urged travelers to take extra precautions “while heading to and from the airports”.
The airport management authority further advised travelers to pack raincoats, plan ahead, and travel safely.
A media official spoke with ‘Sun’ Online about this note that though the flight schedule has not been altered so far, it could change in the coming days.
“There have not been any changes yet, but we have cautioned to travelers to check the schedule for potential changes due to the rainfall and we expect flight delays because of this,” the official added.
Maldives Police Service has also advised motorcycle riders not to use umbrellas when traveling across Sinamale’ Bridge and highway amid the ongoing rain and thunderstorms.
MET forecast rainfall, thunderstorms, rough seas and large sea swells during high-time hours across the Maldives in the next five days.
