Minister Ameen: Traffic situation in Male’ area making it unlivable; worsened by past governments

Transport Minister Mohamed Ameen has remarked that the traffic situation in Male’ area making the area unlivable while accusing the past administrations of worsening the situation.

He made the remark via a post on X.

In this regard, the Minister said it is common knowledge past administrations had normalized illegal garage letters, the use of unregistered vehicles and using Male' and Hulhumale' roads as junkyards for vehicles.

He underscored the need to make decisions for the benefit of all people who are living in Male’ and Hulhumale’ while emphasizing there is no textbook solution to the issue.

Minister Ameen expressed gratitude for the support from the wider public for the government’s efforts to resolve the issue and urged all authorities and the public to work together to find solutions for the benefit of all.

Notably, the current administration has launched ‘Male’ Fehi’ program as part of its efforts to alleviate congestion in the Maldivian capital.

Moreover, relevant authorities are also undertaking efforts to remove and destroy long-unused vehicles parked in Male’ area roads.

Transport Ministry, at present, inspects garages before the registration of cars to strengthen the car registration process. However, this has prompted complaints that the car registration process has become more difficult.
