Six migrants involved in fight to be deported

Maldives Immigration has announced its decision to deport six migrants who were involved in a fight in Male’ City.

The authority, via a post on X, said six migrants involved in a fight in Male’ City were handed over to their custody by Maldives Police Service. The post further read that the visas of all six migrants will be canceled and they will be deported.

Immigration disclosed photos and ages of the migrants, however, not their names and nationalities. All of the migrants are men, between the ages of 26 and 40.

The fight, which took place in Asrafee Magu, was reported to the police at 12:33 am Thursday.

A video of the incident shows at least six men hitting each other with batons.

Police, in an earlier statement, said the migrants involved in the fight were from Bangladesh and Sri Lanka.

They further said two migrants who sustained injuries in the fight were treated at the Indhira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) and then discharged.

Five migrants were arrested in connection to the case. They were later released, according to the Police.

Many had criticized their release on social media as Police affirmed the case was under further investigation.
