Hamid Shafeeu, former CTO at President’s Office, dies aged 48

Hamid Shafeeu, the former Chief Technology Officer at the President’s Office, has died at the age of 48.

He died on Sunday in neighboring India after battling with a rare form of cancer.

The news of Hamid’s death has met with a flood of social media posts offering condolences to his bereaved family.

In a post on X, former Maldivian President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih described Hamid as one of the pioneers of the Maldivian IT sector.

“…He rendered so many valuable services to the state and country in this field,” he said.

He offered sincere condolences to the bereaved family.

Former deputy chairman of Elections Commission, Ismail Habeeb, who was a close friend of Hamid, confirmed that he died in India on Sunday morning.

However, he did not disclose the circumstances of his death.

Hamid was appointed as the CTO at the President’s Office on November 28, 2019.

He held a BSc. (Hons) in Computer Science from University College London, the UK, and was a certified Nutanix Support Specialist and a certified Cisco Meraki Support Specialist.

He had also previously served at the President’s Office from September 1998 till May 2007 as the Manager - Technical Services Unit and Chief Network Administrator in the Information Systems Section.
