A long-time public servant, Ibrahim Rasheed (Vaikaradhoo Rasheed), has passed away on Tuesday while in Saudi Arabia for Umrah pilgrimage.
In a message to the media on Wednesday morning, Islamic Ministry said two Maldivian pilgrims have passed away. The Ministry identified the pilgrims as two males who traveled with Safa and Hijra groups, respectively, adding that their funerals have been completed.
The Ministry did not disclose their names.
However, Sun has learned that one of the pilgrims who passed away is Rasheed.
Rasheed, born to Vaikaradhoo, had served the state for over 36 years, holding various posts at the Auditor General’s Office, Finance Ministry and Anti-Corruption Commission.
Rasheed retired from the public service at the age of 65 after extensive services in the field of finance and auditing.
Rasheed is also a writer who has previously written for various news publications. Before his death, he had decided to publish two books.
