Economic Ministry has commenced efforts to formulate a registry of goods produced in the Maldives, for both internal supply and export.

The Ministry, via an announcement on the government gazette on Wednesday, requested local producers who wish to be listed on the registry to share their information with the Ministry before August 15th via the following link.

As per the Ministry, the registry would lead to an increase in the number of locally produced goods.

The Ministry said the main purpose behind establishing the registry is to compile information on individuals producing goods in the Maldives as a source of income with the aim of assisting them to expand their scope of operation, identify products that can be sold in the Maldives and exported abroad and find markets for the products at foreign nations.

The Ministry cited identifying the obstructions faced by such individuals and assisting in the development of their businesses in line with the government’s policy to support local producers as another purpose of the registry.

The Ministry has instructed anyone who wishes to clarify further information regarding Wednesday’s announcement to contact its contact center at 1500.
