Complaints window over Habeeb’s HRCM appointment open

The parliament on Thursday has opened a complaints window regarding the suggested appointment of former Elections Commission (EC) Deputy President Ismail Habeeb to Human Rights Commission of the Maldives (HRCM).

President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu nominated Habeeb’s name for the commission earlier.

The parliament secretariat’s statement confirmed Habeeb’s nomination has been submitted to the relevant committee for reviewal, and announced complaints about his appointment can be lodged before 14:00hrs on July 28th.

Complainants are required to provide their full name, permanent address, contact number while mailing their complaints at [email protected] or submit it to the secretariat.

HRCM announced vacancy and seeking a member for the commission after its member Dr. Ahmed Adham Abdulla resigned in October last year.

President Muizzu’s nomination letter was read at the parliament floor on Monday this week.

The long-serving member of EC, Habeeb’s tenure concluded on March 13th this year having served at the commission for 21 years.
