Maldives Immigration has launched ‘Immigration Watch’ on Wednesday, an online platform to facilitate reporting immigration or border-related offenses.
The platform was officially launched by Controller General of Immigration Mohamed Shamman Waheed at a press conference held by the authority on Wednesday. While unveiling the platform, Shamman said it would enhance public cooperation in Immigration’s efforts to curtail the population of illegal immigrants.
He also added that the platform aims to strengthen the reporting mechanism, allowing the public to report on offenses related immigrants living in the Maldives illegally or cases of illegal entrance into the country.
Users also have the option to file their reports anonymously, Shamman added.
“It is not necessary for the complainant’s identity is known, they can submit their reports anonymously,” Shamman said.
The platform, operational on a 24/7 basis, has the features for complainants to submit pictures and other material as proof of potential immigration offenses. To file reports, complainants can select ‘Immigration Watch’ after accessing the authority’s website at imuga.immigration.gov.mv.
The Maldives government aims to solve illegal immigration within three years. Immigration is currently conducting raids to identity illegal immigrants and expats running businesses illegally.
