Hanimaadhoo Airport project to conclude in March 2025

Ministry of Construction and Infrastructure on Wednesday said it expects the ongoing Hanimaadhoo airport development project to conclude in March next year.

India's Kalpataru Projects International Limited is handling the development project.

The ministry on Wednesday said construction of the airport's 2,400 runway and apron have been completed, with 97 progress in the component and is expected to conclude by November this year.

The development of the 10,500 square meters passenger terminal has reached 51.4 percent progress, with structural and finishing works currently ongoing.

The traffic control tower, spanning 3,800 square meters, is 75 percent completed while the fuel farm and fuel jetty works have been completed 44 percent.

Foundation of the fuel tanks have been completed, with assembly work of the tanks now ongoing.

The ministry reported the project has observed a 67 percent overall progress, with the initiative to conclude in March 2025.

The airport's development is funded via a USD 800 million line of credit issued from EXIM Bank, India. 

Minister of Construction Dr. Abdulla Muththalib and the Indian Ambassador to the Maldives Munu Mahawar had visited the project site for an inspection on Wednesday afternoon.

Besides Dr. Muththalib, Minister of Transport Mohamed Ameen along with senior officials of the Indian High Commission visited Hanimadhoo to inspect the project as well.

According to the ministry, Dr. Muththalib has spoken with the project's contractor, consultant and the proprietor of the airport, Regional Airports Company Limited (RACL) regarding potential options to extend government support to expediture the project.
