Winners announced in 2nd edition of ‘Laamaseelu Laamu’ oratory competition

The winners have been announced in the second edition of the ‘Laamaseelu Laamu’ – an oratory competition hosted by the L. Atoll Council.

The award gala, held at the Hamad Bin Khalifa Al Thani School in L. Gan on Sunday night, was attended by Zulfa Ibrahim, vice president of the Dhivehi Bahuge Academy.

Awards were conferred to the top five students overall, as well as in the under 14 age category, above 14 age category, as well as the top five schools in the two age categories.

Top five students:

  • Ibrahim Ahil Azim, Ihahdhoo School
  • Aishath Abdul Rauf, Hamad Bin Khalifa Al Thani School
  • Aishath Husnu Mohamed, Hamad Bin Khalifa Al Thani School
  • Aish Abdul Hannan, Hamad Bin Khalifa Al Thani School
  • Zuha Nasir, L. Atoll Education Center

Zuha won the top prize, while Hamad took the second spot, and Ahil placed third.

The judges and everyone who assisted in the competition received commemorative plaques.

One of the judges, Mohamed Naseer described the ‘Laamaseelu Laamu’ oratory competition as an exemplary work by the L. Atoll Council, adding that it had shown an example to all other atoll councils.

He also noted improvements in the oratory skills of students compared to the previous competition.

L. Atoll Council’s president Ismail Ali said that though the participation in this year’s competition was lower than the previous one, it saw a number of skilled orators.

He also thanked the Dhivehi Bahuge Academy for its assistance in organizing such a big regional competition.

Zulfa also noted an improvement in the skills of participants.

She said that the purpose of the competition is to build skilled young orators and provide academic information using an appropriate vocabulary.

“My advice to all you students is that if you want to build a Maldivian civilization, if you want to progress from this step to the next, prioritize literature,” she said.

Zulfa asked other atoll councils to take ‘Laamaseelu Laamu’ competition as an example.

Sunday’s award ceremony was attended by heads of schools and the L. Atoll Council.
