VP: President aims to build a nation that embraces Islamic values

It is one of President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu’s main goals to build a nation that embraces Islamic values and Maldivian customs, says Vice President Hussain Mohamed Latheef.

He made the remark at the inauguration of the 36th National Quran Competition on Saturday night.

Speaking at the ceremony, Hussain said that the National Quran Competition is the most prestigious competition related to the Holy Quran in the Maldives.

He said the government aims to improve the competition year by year.

He added that the government plans to expand prizes at the competition, and also boost Maldives’ representation in international Quran competitions.

Hussain said that the prestige of the National Quran Competition will be greatly enhanced under President Muizzu’s leadership.

“It is one of President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu’s main goals is to build a nation that embraces Islamic values and Maldivian customs,” he said.

Hussain said that there has already been an increased focus on Islamic affairs in the Maldives in the seventh months since the new administration took office.

He highlighted on the government’s initiatives to provide opportunities for young children and Quran students to improve their Quran recitation skills and perform prayers in mosques.

He added that the government plans to to expand Quran teaching classes, and provide further support and incentives to children who memorize the Quran.

Speaking further, Hussain urged people not to view the recitation of the Quran as just preparation for a competition, but as an act of worship.

He also encouraged everyone to make time to recite a portion of the Quran every day, emphasizing the importance of reciting the Quran properly and understanding its meaning.
