VP urges athletes to honor Maldives abroad

Vice President Hussain Mohamed Latheef on Thursday urged national athletes to uphold the honor and reputation of the Maldives while representing the country abroad.

Speaking at a send-off ceremony for the senior men's national volleyball team, the Vice President expressed pride in the achievements of Maldivian sports teams and encouraged the players to compete with the aim of bringing home the tournament trophy.

Highlighting volleyball as a sport gaining momentum in the Maldives, Hussain noted that the government is actively working to promote its development. He also pledged continued support for the sector in the future.

The senior men's national volleyball team, officially announced on Thursday, will represent the Maldives at the Central Asian Volleyball Association (CAVA) Men’s Cup. The tournament will be held in Dhaka, Bangladesh, from October 22 to 28. The team is scheduled to depart for Thailand on Thursday ahead of the competition.

The ceremony, held at the Social Center, was attended by Minister of Sports, Fitness and Recreation Abdullah Rafeeu, officials from the ministry, and representatives of the Volleyball Association of Maldives.
