VP departs for China to attend Blue Economy forum

Vice President Hussain Mohamed Latheef on Saturday has departed on an official visit to China to take part in the 'Third China-Indian Ocean Region Forum on Blue Economy Development Cooperation'.

The VP is expected to visit Kunming, Yunnan Province to attend the forum which the Maldives is co-hosting, and is scheduled from December 15 to 17, 2024.

The event, organized by the China International Development Cooperation Agency (CIDCA) aims to enhance cooperation between China and Indian Ocean region countries, focusing on various aspects of the blue economy, including climate change and sustainable development.

The theme of the third forum is 'Future of the Blue Indian Ocean: Development Practices of the Global South' and will feature diverse thematic discussions, subforums, and roundtable discussions on topics of mutual interests.

VP Hussain is attending the forum at the invitation of the Chinese government, and is expected to deliver a statement at the opening ceremony of the forum.
