The Public Service Media (PSM) has issued a public apology for airing inappropriate content during a news segment.

In a statement PSM issued on Saturday evening, it said the inappropriate image was aired during the 19:00hrs English News broadcast on December 10th.

Clips of the news segment, which featured the said image, has been circulating on social media. The said clip shows two men on a fishing boat behind a news reporter taking a bath and drying themselves.

PSM in response said the imagery goes against the company’s editorial policy, and assured taking strict action against the culpable parties due to the serious nature of the issue.

The state-run media further confirmed two of its employees have been suspended in relation to the incident, and their case, along has been forwarded to the relevant committee for necessary action. PSM has also tasked the committee to take action against any other party liable for the incident.

PSM further said it was revising the standard operational procedure (SOP) of various departments to ensure such incidents do not repeat in the future.

Two days earlier, PSM issued a similar apology after a portion of the Holy Quran being recited on a live broadcast program was truncated due to a technical malfunction. PSM assured the employees liable for this have been suspended.
