STELCO holds blood donation camp

State Electric Company Limited (STELCO) has held a blood donation camp.

The company said the camp, was spearheaded by the company in collaboration with Maldives Blood Service (MBS) in order to facilitate easy access to transfusions for those required.

As per the company, almost 100 employees volunteered to donate blood in the camp.

STELCO noted that its management allocates a high priority to serve the society in such areas. They underscored receiving significant support from its staff for the camp.

“We proudly thank our staff’s continued support for such initiatives conducted for the benefit of the society,” the company added.

STELCO plans to make the blood donation camp an annual event.

The company’s Managing Director Hussain Fahumy also participated in the event, and donated blood.

Blood donation is a crucial social responsibility, especially in a nation such as the Maldives where there are difficulties securing blood for those who need transfusions including Thalassemia patients.

MBS has recently stated that Maldives’ has a relatively high rate of Thalassemia patients and that the nation has a high demand for blood. As per the service, 70 percent of blood donated is used for transfusions for Thalassemia patients.

They cited the solution for this as regular blood donations.
