Foreign Minister concludes official Lanka visit

Minister of Foreign Affairs Moosa Zameer has concluded his official visit to Sri Lanka.

Zameer's trip to Lanka, from June 03 to Thursday, his first official state visit since cabinet post assumption, was aimed at strengthening bilateral and cooperative ties between the two countries.

The minister made the official trip on the invitation of Sri Lankan Foreign Minister Ali Sabry.

During his meeting with Sabry, the two engaged in discussions of a diverse array of topics ranging from fisheries, tourism, employment, education, and strengthening regional and bilateral ties, as well as strengthening safety and security measures.

Zameer also urged for collaborative efforts between the Maldives and Lanka combatting illegal fishing activities in the countries' EEZs and beyond.

Besides meeting his Lankan counterpart, Zameer paid courtesy calls on several dignatories, including Sri Lankan President Ranil Wickremesinghe and Prime Minister Dinesh Gunawardena.

In his visits to both the Lankan President and the Prime Minister, Zameer reiterated hope for strengthening ties between the two countries.

He also paid visits to Lankan Minister of Public Security Tiran Alles, and the opposition leader Sajith Premadasa.

Zameer met with Maldivian locals residing in Lanka as well. He also visited the Maldives High Commission at Sri Lanka, where he spent some time with the staff.

The minister was accompanied by the State Minister Sherina Abdul Samad, Additional Secretary Shiruzimath Sameer, and Director General Aishath Fareena.

Prior to his official trip to Lanka, the Foreign Minister also made a trip to India.
