Minister of Agriculture and Animal Welfare Dr. Aishath Rameela was admitted to the hospital on Friday to undergo an additional surgery as part of her cancer treatment.
Minister Rameela has been battling with Metastatic Serous Papillary Carcinoma, a form of cervical cancer, for months.
Via a post on X on Friday, Minister Rameela announced that she was back in the hospital for another surgery, chemotherapy and immunotherapy.
“Alhamdulillah for all the blessings and strength bestowed on me to pull myself through the daily challenges,” she added.

Minister Rameela also traveled overseas for treatment back in November, shortly after she assumed office. She resumed her responsibilities following her return to the Maldives on February 4th.
Her cancer diagnosis had come to light while she was undertaking crucial responsibilities as the Minister of Agriculture and Animal Welfare after the new administration assumed office.
A PhD holder, Rameela previously served as a state minister for health, and as a state minister for gender, as well as the registrar at Maldives Medical and Dental Council
