The Sun Siyam Group held its sixth and final camp at the Sun Siyam Vilu Reef on Wednesday, wrapping up its annual blood drive to celebrate its anniversary.
The camp at Sun Siyam Vilu Reef was inaugurated by the resort’s manager, Thoha Yoosuf.
Citing information provided by the Maldivian Blood Services (MBS), Thoha spoke about the shortage of blood needed by the country’s thalassemia patients.
“There are 900 thalassemia patients registered with MBS. Over 300 of these patients get their treatment from Male’,” he said.
Sun Siyam Group has been holding annual blood drives in celebration of its anniversary since 2015. The company was forced to suspend the initiative during the Covid-19 pandemic, but resumed it again, last year.
This year’s blood drive began on May 9, at the Sun Siyam Olhuveli. The second camp was held at the Siyam World Maldives on May 16, the third at the Sun Siyam Group head office on May 21, the fourth at the Sun Siyam Iru Fushi on May 26, and the fifth was held at the Sun Siyam Iru Veli on June 1.
Azza Hameed, the manager of Sun Siyam Group’s Agriculture Department and the coordinator of the blood donation camp, said that employees at all Sun Siyam resorts and the head office participated in the event.
She stressed that blood donation is a small act of humanity that can save countless lives.
Sun Siyam Group’s annual blood drive was held under the supervision of a team from the MBS. Azza thanked the service for its support towards the company’s initiative.
