Maldives Police Service, on Monday, said they seized 35 kilos of drugs in 309 counter-narcotics operations carried out in the past six months.
Police, underscoring they have undertaken significant amounts of work over the past six months, shared statistics with respect to the work.
In this regard, they detailed that 35 kilos of drugs in 309 counter-narcotics operations carried out over the past six months as drug-related crimes remain prevalent in the Maldivian society.
Meanwhile, MVR 4 million in theft cases were recovered in the past six months.
50 illegal migrants involved in criminal offenses were detained and handed over to Maldives Immigration for deportation.
Police said they have achieved significant successes in criminal investigations; one of their main responsibilities.
In this trajectory, it was detailed that the investigation into 554 cases filed with the authority within this period were completed following which they have forwarded the cases to the Prosecutor General’s Office for charges.
Verdicts were delivered in 42 cases previously investigated which saw the arrests of 3,619 people.
Additionally, the Police said a total of 905 programs were conducted nationwide under its neighborhood policing service – which is aimed at working as closely with the public as possible. They included 252 programs specific to the general public on topics such as protecting one’s self from crimes and awareness regarding laws and regulations.
Another crucial work carried out by the Police in the past six months, as per the authority, is successfully maintaining security during April’s parliamentary election to ensure a peaceful voting atmosphere; a work carried out in collaboration with other relevant authorities.
A total of 899 officers were trained in various areas via 142 international programs in the past six months.
Police posts were opened at an additional 19 islands as part of efforts to establish police presence at all Maldivian islands. Efforts are underway to establish police posts at another 12 islands within the course of this year.
