Ibrahim Shujau, the deputy leader of ruling People’s National Congress (PNC), has won back HA. Baarah seat.

The preliminary results of the 2024’s parliamentary election places Shujau in a clear lead with 1,117 votes from five boxes that have been counted so far.

His closest rival, main opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP)'s Ali Asgar trails behind with 299 votes.

Shujau was elected to the Baarah seat in 2014’s parliamentary election and served as the parliamentary representative for the Baarah constituency from 2014 to 2019. He failed to defend the seat in 2019, losing the election to Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP)’s Ahmed Abdulla.

He is currently serving as Hulhumale’ Councilor in Male’ City Council; a seat he had won by a landslide in 2021’s Male’ City Council elections.

As the preliminary results stand, ruling PNC has secured majority in the parliament.
