I have been informed that the former administration ran projects just to give money to party members, says President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, adding that multiple such contractors received advanced payments.
On Saturday’s episode of the Q&A program ‘Raeesge Javaabu’, Aminath Nazeera, a resident of Male’, questioned the president regarding claims by opposition politicians that his administration has dropped multiple projects initiated by the MDP administration.
President Muizzu responded that he has heard the former administration awarded government contractors to party members. He said that there were some instances where the same contract was later awarded to a different party after having paid advances to original contractors.
“There are instances where such stalled projects were awarded and advance payments made three or four times,” he said.

President Muizzu said that many projects stalled due to cashflow constraints facing small and medium enterprises. He said that he has also seen instances where pipes are piled on the side of the road due to stall in water and sanitation projects.
President Muizzu said that it was his administration which had resumed stalled projects, and not the other way around.
He said that his administration was committed to producing results and will run projects as promised.
The remarks comes as MDP accuses President Muizzu’s administration of dropping projects initiated during its administration.
