A racing track will be developed along the highway connecting Male' and Hulhumale', President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has announced.
The President said the government plans to establish racing tracks in both Male' and Addu, fulfilling a key campaign pledge. The Male' track will be built on land to be reclaimed adjacent to the highway, near the area where solar panels are currently installed.
He said the project has been handed over to Maldives Airports Company Ltd (MACL), which will begin work soon. According to the President, the location was selected because building a racing track inside a residential area would create difficulties, while the highway zone offers the required space and safety buffer.
Racing is a popular sport among Maldivian youth and is internationally recognised. The President said the government aims to develop tracks that meet international standards in Male', Addu and the northern region of the country.
Separately, the Housing Development Corporation (HDC) has also decided to establish a racing track at Isle Adventure Park.
