The water fountain located in the Republic Square of the Maldivian capital is set to reopen after repairs for the upcoming Eid al-Fitr.
The Local Government Ministry had previously said the fountain would reopen during Ramadan.
But in a post on X on Wednesday morning, Local Government Minister Adam Shareef Umar said that efforts to repair and reopen the water fountain in time for the Eid is going ahead at full swing.
He added that the fountain had fallen into ruin, and that efforts to repair and reopen it in time for Eid is being carried out at special request from President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu.

The 28-meter-wide and 28-meter-long water fountain was built by the Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC). The fountain was opened during former President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom’s administration.
In 2022, back when President Muizzu was serving as Male’ City Mayor, he slammed the government for failure to properly maintain the fountain.
