President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu says that the company contracted to install additional elevators at the Hiyaa towers, will mobilize to the site to commence practical works on the project next month.

On the Q&A platform ‘Raeesge Javaab’ on Monday, Aishath Shaufa, Haleema Shahiya, a native of GDh. Faresmaathodaa who currently resides at the Hiyaa towers in Hulhumale’, inquired about when additional elevators would be built there.

President Muizzu responded that an agreement had been signed to install additional elevators, and that the contractor was currently drawing up detailed designs.

“I have been informed that they will mobilize to the Hiyaa flat area to begin practical works on the project in April, In Sha Allah,” he said.

President Muizzu added that the government will make the advance payment soon.

“According to the agreement, they must mobilize within one month after the advance payment is made. But we will push them to start sooner,” he said.

President Muizzu added that according to the terms of the agreement, the contractor is required to complete the project within one year after the commencement of the project.

But we will push them to finish it earlier, he said.

The project to install additional elevators at the Hiyaa towers was awarded to China’s Shenyang Yuanda Intellectual Industry Group in February.

The project will see the installation of 32 additional elevators at the 16 towers – two for each tower. According to the Housing Development Corporation (HDC), the two new elevators at each tower will include one large enough to accommodate a stretcher.

The Hiyaa towers houses hundreds of people, and the shortage of elevators at the buildings often result in long queues. President Muizzu had pledged to install additional elevators there during his 2023 presidential campaign.
