On behalf of the government and the people of Maldives, I extend our sincere condolences to the bereaved families and all those affected.…
The Pakistan Meteorological Department has forecasted heavy to very heavy rainfall in isolated areas across the country for the next four days, with a potential easing of conditions only expected on Thursday, August 21.
Reports also indicate that India's Jammu and Kashmir, in close proximity to Pakistan's Azad Kashmir, is experiencing significant rainfall, contributing to the regional crisis. The floods are further exacerbating the situation by triggering landslides, and there are growing concerns that rivers in Pakistan's Swat valley may overflow due to the prolonged precipitation.
In response to the escalating crisis, Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has urged government institutions to take proactive measures to provide essential assistance to those impacted by the heavy rains. He has also convened an emergency cabinet meeting to closely monitor the extent of the damage. Furthermore, Prime Minister Sharif has directed federal ministers and the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), which operates similarly to a task force, to collaborate in relief efforts and damage assessment.
