Maldives Police Service, on Friday, said they towed 88 vehicles in the past two nights as part of efforts to illegally parked vehicles in Male’ roads.

An earlier announcement by the Police that they would not be issuing stickers for parking violations without allocating space for parking prompted an increase in illegal parking. In this regard, parked cars filled up both sides of the Boduthakurufaanu Magu while motorcycles were parked on numerous smaller roads in a manner that posed difficulties for people using the roads.

Henceforth, Police, on March 3rd, announced they would recommence enforcing action for parking violations.

In a post on X on Friday, Police said a total of 48 vehicles were towed from Male’ City last alone, while 40 vehicles were towed the night before.

Police recommenced enforcing action for parking violations on March 5th.

Police, in light of illegal parking of vehicles that obstruct other vehicles and pedestrians using the roads, public transport and emergency vehicles, have strongly urged drivers to adhere to the stipulated regulations.
