President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu says that a land reclamation project will be launched in HA. Vashafaru within this year.

President Muizzu, who is currently on a tour of northern Maldives, made the announcement while addressing a gathering in Vashafaru, his home island, on Sunday.

Speaking at the gathering, President Muizzu said the land reclamation will begin this year, as soon as the government secures funding.

‘In Sha Allah, our goal is to begin land reclamation this year, and finish all ongoing projects,” he said.

MVR 4.6 million is allocated in this year’s budget for the land reclamation and coastal protection project in Vashafaru.

However, President Muizzu said the amount is insufficient.

Speaking further, President Muizzu pledged to run a water and sanitation project in Vashafaru, as well as to establish a waste management center, build a multi-purpose hall at the school, and establish laboratory services at the local health center.

Throughout his tour, President Muizzu has repeatedly expressed concerns over budgetary constraints.

Addressing the residents of Vashafaru, he said that the funds allocated in this year’s budget for projects was insufficient.

He also said that his administration inherited MVR 120 billion in debt from the former administration.
