Male’ Water and Sewerage Company (MWSC) has begun work on establishing a water and sewerage system in HA. Vashafaru.
The project was inaugurated by MWSC’s Managing Director Hassan Shah, Kelaa MP Ibrahim Shareef, HA. Atoll Council’s President Moosa Shafeeq, and Vashafaru Council’s President Ahmed Mueen in a ceremony at Vashafaru on Saturday morning.
The groundbreaking ceremony was also attended by senior officials from MWSC.
MWSC said that the company is currently engaged in constructing the facility needed to house the water plant, and that equipment and material needed for the water and sanitation project have been transported to Vashafaru.
29 percent of the work on the facility is done, said the company.
The water project in Vashafaru involves establishing a 7.5-kilometer main water pipeline network, construction of an RO facility, installation of two RO plants, and three water tanks to store water.
Additional work includes installation of water meters in households, providing water connections, and supplying clean and safe drinking water.
The sewerage project, meanwhile, involves establishing a 6.1-kilometer main sanitation network, a 2.7-kilometer pump line, four pump stations and one sea outflow.
Additional work includes establishing junctions in households, providing sanitation connections, and providing sanitation services to households.
MWSC is also scheduled to provide generator set and vehicle needed to manage the water and sanitation system, and equipment to test the water quality.
The Vashafaru water and sewerage project was contracted to MWSC by Planning, Housing and Infrastructure Ministry for MVR 78.92 million.
