Egyptian contractor awarded design and survey of Addu bridge

Egypt’s The Arab Contractors was awarded preliminary design and survey of the Hithadhoo and Hulhumeedhoo Bridges in Addu City on Monday.

The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) pertaining to the 14-kilometer bridge project was signed as part of President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu’s visit to Addu City, during a meeting he held with residents of Addu City’s Maradhoo and Maradhoo-Feydhoo. 

Minister of Construction and Infrastructure, Dr Abdulla Mutalib, signed the agreement on behalf of the Maldivian Government – while Engineer Heba Abu Al Ela signed on behalf of Arab Contractors.

Speaking at the signing ceremony, President Muizzu emphasized the bridge project as one of the significant projects pledged by his administration and noted that the expenses for the design and feasibility of the bridge will be funded by grants. 

He revealed that the project will be initiated within this year, and completed within four years. He additionally relayed his hope for the project to contribute towards enhancing Addu City’s economic prospects.

Hela, who also spoke at the ceremony, said the company's vision was to complete the project to its best capacity, in collaboration with the government. 

MVR 30 million has been allocated for the survey required to commence physical works on the bridge linking Addu City’s Hithadhoo and Hulhumeedhoo in the state budget proposed; a pledge included in President Muizzu's 'Hafutha 14' roadmap, or first 100-day goals.
