At least one individual has been reported injured on Tuesday in an accident at Hankede Bridge due to an out-of-control vehicle.
Maldives Police Service said that the accident was reported around 10:17hrs on Tuesday morning, and involved a speeding biker traveling from Addu City Hithadhoo to Maradhoo across the bridge.
The biker had reportedly lost control of the bike and collided with the wall fence. The injured biker was taken to Addu Equatorial Hospital for treatment, police added.
The hospital however, was not available for a comment regarding the incident.
Police further added they are investigating the case.
This is the second accident reported within four months, as another such accident was reported in February when a speeding biker lost control of the vehicle and got into an accident. The 24-year-old rider passed away amid treatment.
Hankede Bridge was opened for public transportation earlier in February.
While Addu City reports an alarming number of accidents per year, Addu Equatorial Hospital had raised concerns over the increasing number of accidents in the city.
In 2024, the city reported a total of 277 accidents, while in January 2025 alone 27 accidents have been reported according to the hospital.
