Regional Airports Company Limited (RACL) has announced the operationalization of the new runway in Hanimaadhoo Airport.
The company, in a post on X on Sunday, said 1,200 meters of the new runway at Hanimaadhoo Airport was completed and brought into operation yesterday.
RACL’s Managing Director Ahmed Mubeen and Island Aviation’s Deputy Managing Director Ali Saleem were on the first flight that landed at the runway on Sunday.
Today marks a significant step in the development of Hanimaadhoo International Airport. The inauguration of 1200 meters of the new runway at the airport enables the company to deliver on its comitment to service excellence and regional connectivity in the Maldives.

As per the company, the new runway, spanning a total length of 2,460 meters, will be fully completed by the end of March with night landing capabilities.
Hanimaadhoo Airport development project was awarded to India’s JMC Projects Limited for USD 136.6 million,
The project is financed by a line of credit executed between the Maldivian government and India’s EXIM bank in 2019.
The project initiated by the former administration includes the development of a terminal that can accommodate up to 1.3 million passengers per year.
