Former technology minister Maleeh Jamal who is at the forefront of the steering committee formed by PPM’s leader, former president Abdull Yameen Abdul Gayyom last night, has been suspended from participating in PPM’s activities.
PPM held an unannounced press conference on Tuesday night. Those who attended the press conference include former Technology Minister Maleeh Jamal, former Commissioner General of Customs Abbas Adil Riza, and several members of the PPM senate.
At the press conference, Maleeh said Yameen has appointed 13 officials for 13 focal points to lead changes to the PPM, to modernize the party and stand against the injustice Yameen suffered in prison. He added that PPM-PNC members voted for President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu to free Yameen.
In a letter to Maleeh on Wednesday, signed by PPM’s deputy leaders – Defense Minister Ghassan Maumoon and Fisheries Minister Ahmed Shiyam – read that the party’s leadership had taken note of Maleeh, while being a member of the PPM senate, working to disgrace and divide the party.
“You have formed a committee without consulting with the party’s leadership or the senate, held a press conference under the party’s name without informing the party’s leadership or the senate in violation of the party’s regulations in addition to leading the said press conference while undertaking efforts to disgrace and divide the party in violation of the party’s regulations,” the letter read.
The letter further read that Maleeh has been suspended from PPM’s activities while a complaint of misconduct has been lodged with the party’s Disciplinary Committee as the leadership believes Maleeh has committed all acts mentioned before.
“Pending the party’s Disciplinary Committee’s decision, you will not partake in activities of the party effective immediately,” the letter said.
Maleeh held the press conference without informing most members of PPM’s leadership, citing it was done been under Yameen’s instructions.
