ACC raids Ombudsperson’s Office of Transitional Justice

A team from the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has raided the Ombudsperson’s Office of Transitional Justice (OTJ).

Sun has learned that ACC raided OTJ over allegations of altering earlier decisions made by the office.

ACC confirmed to Sun that they were investigating a case related to OTJ, without disclosing the details of the case.

Sun has also learned that OTJ’s senior officials have instructed against providing cooperation to ACC’s team, including giving instructions not to open the doors of certain rooms in the office, to stop the team from entering them.

OTJ has been at the receiving end of various allegations previously. Just two days ago, OTJ’s Ombudsperson Jihadha Anees tendered her resignation, expressing significant concern over the office’s undertakings.

Meanwhile, a team of police officers raided the office of Road Development Corporation (RDC) yesterday, seizing a large number of documents for their investigation. In late October, a team of police officers also entered the Football Association of Maldives (FAM) as part of an investigation into their finances.

ACC has firmly instructed government offices and companies against committing acts that can be considered corruption as the transitional phase between two administrations nears an end.
