14 students from the Islamic University of Maldives (IUM) have been awarded scholarships under the Chinese Ambassador Bursary Award program.
The Chinese Ambassador Bursary Award is a program through which the Chinese Embassy funds higher education of students that need financial assistance.
The awards were handed out by Chinese Ambassador Wang Lixin and Maldivian Higher Education Minister Dr. Ibrahim Hassan at a special function held at the IUM on Monday.
Speaking at the function, Wang said the Chinese Ambassador Bursary Award goes beyond being just a scholarship program, but is also crucial to people-to-people and cultural exchanges between Maldives and China.
She said that the program also serves to bolster the historic ties between Maldives and China.
Wang said that China remained ready to provide its assistance to Maldivian youths to fulfil their aspirations.
Highlighting on China-funded projects such as the Sinamale’ Bridge and the Velana International Airport expansion project, Wang said that China was committed to supporting Maldives in its socio-economic development.
