Heavy rain will prevail across southern and central Maldives over next 48 hours

Heavy rain is expected to prevail over southern and central Maldives until Monday, according to the Maldives Meteorological Service.

A meteorologist from the national weather agency told Sun on Saturday that while the rain is expected to prevail over southern and central parts of the country, the weather is expected to be clear in the north.

According to the general weather forecast update released by the weather agency, scattered showers and a few thunderstorms are expected across the country.

Winds are expected to blow south west-westerly at 5 – 15 miles per hour.

Seas are expected to be slight.

Meteorological service expects the weather to improve on Tuesday, but worsen again starting Friday, with widespread rain across the country.

According to the Maldives National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), heavy rain resulted in flooding in four islands from Thursday-Friday; Lh. Naifaru, Sh. Goidhoo, AA. Feridhoo, and B. Maalhos.
