The opposition PPM-PNC’s presidential candidate Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has pledged to provide housing to all young man above the age of 18 years, irrespective of whether they are unmarried or childless.
In a campaign rally in Male’ on Thursday, Muizzu said that housing is one of the key areas of interest for the youth.
He said that up until now, marriage and the number of children had always been considered in award of social housing. He said he plans on changing that policy.
“I propose providing housing the moment they turn 18, even if they are unmarried,” he said.
Muizzu said he will introduce the option of co-living for people who want more affordable housing.
“It will be practically free. Even if you don’t have a job. You can start from zero,” he said.
Muizzu said it will solve the issue of congestion in Male’, where some families have to make a roster to sleep.
He said he has seen the dire living conditions in some of the homes during his door-to-door visits.
