Elections Commission (EC) Vice Chairperson Ismail Habeeb has stated that the commission has received no official complaints from the main opposition Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) regarding anti-campaigning with respect to the presidential election.
PPM, alongside its coalition partner, People’s National Congress (PNC) has alleged anti-campaigning against the coalition’s presidential candidate Dr. Mohamed Muizzu. They have also raised concern over EC’s failure to investigate the matter.
Commenting on the matter, Habeeb told Sun that action has been taken with respect to all complaints filed through official channels.
“We have taken action in all complaints filed with the Elections Commission via letters,” he had said.
Speaking further, Habeeb stressed that EC will not respond to remarks said in front of the podium or posted on Twitter.
In a press conference two days ago, PPM-PNC coalition’s candidate Muizzu’s campaign spokesperson Mohamed Tholal accused EC of taking no action despite anti-campaigns against Muizzu on both social media and on the roads.
He added that such matters should be investigated without filing a complaint.
