The President’s Office, on Wednesday, has opened applications to fill one vacant membership post on the Elections Commission as the term of a sitting member is due to expire.

The member, whose five-year term is expiring, is Dr. Mohamed Zahir.

The President’s Office said interested individuals can apply for EC membership before 12:00pm on January 1st.

The application form is available for collection from the President’s Office on working days between 8:30am and 12:00pm and is also available for download on the President’s Office’s website.

Notably, Zahir survived a no-confidence motion initiated against him by the PNC-dominated Parliament, while then-vice president Ali Nashath and member Mohamed Asif were dismissed based on serious allegations of misconduct, including creating and selling fake membership applications to political parties.
