Authorities investigate after young boy locked out in balcony

The young boy appears to be around three years of age. He is locked out in a balcony in a flat in the Hiyaa towers in Hulhumale' without any clothes on, in the dead of the night. He desperately pounds on the door, pleading to be let in.

In the video, which was shared on Facebook on Wednesday night, the young boy is heard crying and pleading, desperately calling out for his mother.

The Facebook user who shared the video called for the people who neglected the child to be brought to justice.

“Some people are crying and praying for a child. Others are neglecting the children they give birth to,” wrote the Facebook user.

The Human Rights Commission of Maldives (HRCM) issued a statement on Thursday, after the video went viral, sparking outrage.

HRCM said that authorities are investigating the case.

The commission also appealed against sharing such videos, as it may directly affect the dignity of child victims.

“We ask that you report such incidents to the authorities,” said the commission.

The Gender Ministry was not immediately available for comment regarding the case.

Each month, the authorities investigate hundreds of cases of abuses against children, including physical, sexual, and emotional abuse.
