Nahula: Expanding Qasim's business brought stability to the people

Transport Minister and Qasim’s wife, Aishath Nahula,  has said that the people of Maldives have only gotten peace after JP’s presidential candidate, Qasim Mohamed, with the profit that came after he widened his business.

In an interview with TVM, Nahula said that Qasim is a very humble and emotional person.

“It's sad to think of what people say about such an innocent person. It's sad to think that the people of this country don't really know how he is, how innocent he is,” Nahula said, with tears in her eyes.

“From a very poor family, his mother died when he was very young. However, he worked very hard from a very young age, made a lot of progress and became a proud son of Maldives.”

Nahula said critics say that Qasim, who has contested the presidential election twice before, is coming to power with the intention of expanding his business. However, Noting that Qasim is a man of wealth, who has wives and children she said that he is working to do good for the people.

She said that Qasim's expansion of his business has also facilitated peace for the people.

Nahula said previous governments have been implementing projects only with companies that the government has shares in and that while private companies have the opportunity to do business but they do not do business.

As a result, there is no competitive market and a government monopoly is present in the field of trade, she said.  However, Qasim brought it to an end when he expanded his business, which reduced the price of services such as oil and transportation, Nahula said.

“For example, when Flyme was started, and even now, cheapest tickets are available from Flyme. That’s why the then government had to lower the price of tickets. Who has benefited from Qasim Ibrahim's business? I think its the people,” she said.

In addition, she responded to criticism that Qasim, who runs his own airline, exerts his business influence on the Transport Ministry.

Nahula said Qasim does not share any issues regarding Villa companies with her and if the companies need something, he acts according to the rules set for that.

“[The allegations are] not based on fact. Its because some people can’t stomach it. I would like to tell you not to go so far that you cannot come back and shake hands or greet,” Nahula said.

Qasim and Nahula have been married for the past 16 years and have 6 children.

Besides Nahula, Qasim has three wives, all of whom are participating in the campaign activities.
